Our Tour Guide will pick up at your hotel. Only 45 minutes’ drive across the Bago River from Yangon lies Thanlyin (Syriam). It was an important trading center in the 17th Century under the Portuguese Adventurer De Brito. Today, Than-lyin is noted for its Deep Sea Port Projects in Thilawa. Tour highlights; Ruins of the old Portuguese Churches in the center of town, the ruins of a Catholic church built by an Italian Barnabite missionary can still be seen, Kyaik-Khauk Pagoda; it perches on the hillock of the town, an imposing golden stupa similar to the Shwedagon with a history dated back over 2,000 years. The two tombs in front of the pagoda are Myanmar writers Natshinnaung and Padethayaza who wrote about ordinary people in Ava period and were captured by Mon. Later, proceeds to Kyauk-Tan Pagoda (a Pagoda on a small island on a tributary of Yangon’s river), on the way, stop at Bada-Gyi village, to see 41 feet high, 100 years old, huge Seated Buddha Image. Start: Your hotel in Yangon (downtown) @ 6 AM End: Your hotel in Yangon (downtown) @ 6 PM Program Details Our car and guide will meet you at hotel lobby in Yangon downtown and drive to Golden Rock (approximately 4 ½ hour) - a small stupa placed atop the massive granite boulder Golden Rock which covered with gold leaf, and precariously balanced over the edge of the mountain. When you arrives at Kimpun base camp in Kyaik-Hto Mon State to climb up the Golden Rock. On arrival at the base camp, special trucks customized for steep climbs will take you on a thrilling ride up numerous hills to your final destination – the Golden Rock (approx. 45 minutes).  When you reach at the top, walks to the pagoda (10 min) and wander around the pagoda precincts and local shop. After sightseeing, back to the base camp and change the car and then drive back to Yangon. When we arrives Yangon, transfer to your hotel in Yangon downtown.     read more read less

The main beneficiary of the nutrient rich food grown here is a nearby monastic school, home to over 800 students. The aftermath of the cyclone led to severe food shortage and the residents of the monastic school lived off basic staples such as rice and cooking oil, which of course led to the students being severely malnourished. read more read less
